History is full of people with partners, without whom they never would have enjoyed the success they had. Take comedy, for example – you have Abbott and Costello, Penn and Teller, George and Gracie, and, say, Bush and Cheney. Each person (ok, with the possible exception of Bush and Cheney) could have become a success on their own, but having that additional person there to work with, bounce ideas off of, and in general work with hand in hand elevated them to the levels of success they enjoyed.
The examples I listed demonstrate that having someone by your side to help you out, to pick you up when you fall, and to keep you in check should your ideas start going off the rails is extremely important in life – and this is true in business as well. Having a solid team to rely on gives you a safety net that can mean the difference between success or failure in stressful situations.
Do not be fooled into thinking that self-employment means working by yourself. It doesn’t. It means working for yourself. At no point on your road to Personal Independent Earnings are you ever required to go it alone. And in fact, you shouldn’t – not when working together can you get there faster and more safely.
Having someone at your side on whom you can rely is invaluable. Sometimes you’ll need a brutally honest assessment, especially at times when you’re having difficulty giving yourself one. Sometimes you will need a fresh perspective to crack an especially difficult problem. And sometimes you’ll just need some sound advice when you don’t know what to do. The value of finding someone like that can feel as though it’s worth his or her weight in rhodium, especially with those who have more business experience than you do. Business is a tough world and An honest confidant who also happens to be an excellent mentor is a winning combination no matter how you slice it.
So don’t be afraid to share your journey to success with someone. They may just be the extra voice you need to ensure you achieve it.
