If you’re a regular reader, you know all about the Cooperative Age – the ongoing transition to an economic environment that has seen major corporations and institutions stumble and collapse under the disruption of advancing technology and the weight of their own greed. Though this has spelled disaster for many of those who relied on such institutions, it is an unparalleled opportunity for those with the wherewithal and dedication to secure their own future
I know how difficult the transition can be, and that’s why I’ve dedicated my career to supporting entrepreneurs in their quest for success, security, and financial freedom. It is my life’s work, and I spend most of my waking hours building and developing the programs, tools, and lessons that can best enable individuals to achieve their goals in the new age. I wouldn’t have it any other way, but it was a pleasant to take a break last week and celebrate the success of one such talented individual.
As you may know, the Toronto International Film Festival just wrapped up, and a couple of years ago I had the honour to be asked to sponsor a celebratory event for Ava Duvernay, director of the film “Middle of Nowhere.” The film made its international debut at TIFF in 2012 and was scheduled for an October 12th, 2012 theatrical release in the United States, after netting a Best Director award at Sundance earlier that year – the first such award for an African-American woman in the festival’s history. It’s an inspiring story, well worthy of celebrating, and it truly brings home the spirit of the Cooperative Age. After all, Ms. Duvernay is an independent artist and director, unaffiliated with the major corporate studios. She founded her own marketing and media company in the late 90s, and has built on achievement after achievement ever since – a true Cooperative Age independent success story.
There’s a lot to be said for hard work and dedication, but success has little value if you cannot enjoy it. And enjoy it we did! A red carpet affair, great music, outstanding company, and beautiful summer weather all came together to create a night we’ll long remember – and not just because of the lovely photographs which captured the event.
Congratulations once again to Ava Duvernay and the entire cast and crew of “Middle of Nowhere,” and my deep gratitude for the invitation to be a part of your night. You are an inspiration to us all, and a compelling example of how to find success in this new age – Cooperative Age.
