One of the best bits of business advice I can possibly give is to prioritize your work. Get the most important, time sensitive stuff finished first, and then work your way down the list.
Well, that’s today’s article. See you all next week!
In all seriousness though, when it comes to prioritizing your workday, there isn’t much more that needs to be said. But there are other things that are important too, and even though sometimes doing so may have a detrimental effect on the time frame in which you maximize your Personal Independent Earnings, sometimes you may have to put them ahead of work. While it runs counter to the idea of making money, there will be times where it’s in your best interest to actually stop working, and that’s what we’re going to talk about today. Here are a couple of things that may make you consider stepping back for a bit and letting your “right hand” take charge, and letting your team take on the bulk of the work.
HEALTH: I can’t stress enough how important your physical and mental well-being is to your ability to make money. If you’re experiencing things like burnout, anxiety, or if your business isn’t performing quite to your expectations and you’re becoming depressed as a result, it’s a good idea to step back and clear your head. If your head isn’t 100% in the game, your business can (and probably will) suffer for it. Your quality of work will go down. That’s just not good business. And if you’ve got a nagging injury, like a sore back, carpal tunnel (some of my team has problems with this one due to the amount of typing they do on a daily basis), or any number of things, don’t just keep putting it off hoping it will go away. Take the time to rest, heal, and get better. If you want to max out your PIE, you need to be at your best, physically and mentally.
FAMILY: As cliched as it sounds, family comes first. You’ve only got the one, after all. So if a family emergency comes up, or a family member needs your help, don’t be afraid to drop everything and take care of it. Work will still be there when you get back. You will have many opportunities over the years to open and operate a successful business. You have one opportunity to build a healthy relationship with your family. Don’t waste it. It really is more important than money.
There are a few other things I could probably get in to that would be justifiable reasons to take a sabbatical from working, but honestly those are the two most important right there. Health and family are exceptionally important, and taking care of them should never be sacrificed for the sake of work. Ever. So baking yourself a nice big PIE may take a little bit longer. That really, truly, does not matter. Some things really are just more important. And as I said a few minutes ago, work will always be there when you’re ready to come back.
